Support What You Use or Lose It
In response to today’s announcement from Sparrow. Marco Arment offered some profound words of advice.
“If you want to keep the software and services around that you enjoy, do what you can to make their businesses successful enough that it’s more attractive to keep running them than to be hired by a big tech company.”
At first I was a little upset upon hearing of Sparrows acquisition. It had become my go to app on the Mac and on my iPhone for email. Having been a paid user of both applications I felt a little betrayed.
As time went on and more of the Internet weighed in I came to the conclusion that the developers did with the developers needed to do. It was their company to sell and I wish them the best of luck with their new boss. I hope their talents are put to good use and that more people will be able to benefit from what I had previously paid for.
